Why this section exists

Every chapter on this site ends with the next experiment. This section starts on the other side of it.

Suppose the ground-state rule is honoured and a device still closes its ledger. Suppose a metric can be nudged on a bench and then in a hull. What follows is not one product. It is a change in the price of the two things every civilisation has always paid for: energy and distance.

The pages below trace that change domain by domain. Each one names the capability it assumes, follows the first-order effects into the second and third, spends a day in that world, and then turns back to face the laboratory: what it would take, what to build in from the start, and what to watch for now.

How to read the cascades

First-order
What the technology itself does or replaces. Direct, physical, near-term.
Second-order
What happens because the first-order effects happened: prices, industries, habits, infrastructure.
Third-order and beyond
The systemic and cultural consequences over a generation — the ones that change what a normal life is.

Every page follows the same spine: the capability we assume · first-order effects · second-order effects · third-order and beyond · a day in that world · numbers that change · what it would take · stewardship · signals to watch. Scenario language is honest — these pages say "would" and "could" — and every capability is tied to the chapter or course that teaches its physics.
