Tadahiko Mizuno and Jed Rothwell describe two ways to generate excess heat with palladium on nickel in deuterium gas. The older method used weeks or months of glow discharge to sputter palladium from a central electrode onto a nickel mesh. Its best result was 480 W out for 248 W in, or 232 W of excess heat. The newer method applies palladium directly to nickel and takes only about a day. Its excess is usually 5–6% of input power, with the best runs near 20%, or 10–40 W, and the next goal is higher-temperature operation.
