Eric Lerner and Syed Hassan prepare hydrogen-boron fusion tests in LPPFusion's megampere dense plasma focus, FF-2B. Deuterium experiments have already reached mean ion energies above 200 keV, the range needed to burn this fuel. Fuel will come from isotopically pure decaborane, with equipment installed to handle and dispose of its toxic vapours safely. High boron-11 purity avoids producing beryllium-7, and although the main reaction is neutron-free, side reactions give neutrons and carbon-11 that detectors can use. The first experiments are expected to measure the number of fusion reactions, the mean ion energy density and the plasma confinement time.
