A.G. Parkhomov and E.O. Belousova built devices modelled on the high-temperature Rossi reactor. In the first design, an alumina tube 120 mm long, wound with a nichrome heater, holds 1 gram of nickel powder with 0.1 g of lithium aluminium hydride. These devices produce more energy than they consume at about 1100 °C and above. In the second design, heat output was measured by comparing the electrical power the reactor consumed with fuel and without fuel. The second design ran for more than 3 days, giving over twice the heat of the electrical input and more than 40 kWh, or 150 MJ, of excess energy. No ionising radiation rose above background while the reactor operated.
